flour + mousse, 2006

I was feeling pretty beaten up.

Working on THE GRANDFATHERS constantly brought up ideas around concentration camps, torture, the atrocities. I wasn't that beaten up. Just depressed.

What do you do with those stories, when you live a privileged life in a peaceful, wealthy country, in a privileged, wealthy, peaceful city? I had five pounds of flour and temporary mousse hair dye. This was the beginning, in my work, of using household supplies, domestic items to convey bigger ideas. This was about really getting into it, and not being afraid.
